Politics

I know most of the time my posts are about video games, that's what interests me, but I do read quite a bit about politics and current events. I've read a lot about the hopefuls for 2008 Presidential Nominations and I don't see anyone that I'm willing to vote for. Obama might make me cross party lines and vote socialist, but I doubt it. At least with Bush/Kerry I had the lesser of two evils to choose from. I at least knew what kind of social conservatism to expect from President Bush, and got exactly what I expected! This time around I'm not sure so far who to vote for. It's sad when to not have a dog in this race for so long. Is Washington Completely populated by politicians? God, I hope not(Sorry for the rant, but I needed to get that out).

Mii Musing

Sorry for the pun, but I read gaming websites and a lot of news has been on how many PS3 units are collecting dust on store shelves, which they are, and that brings the Sony fan boys out to justify all-things Sony. The point is how many articles talk about the lack of Wiis? I haven't seen a single Wii in Raleigh, NC where I live since launch day in November, and I have really been looking! A target store I was in sold out of Wiis the same day they came and still had 4 PS3s a week later when the stock came in the same day. I read about third-party developers hesitant to develop for the Wii because first-party games are received better by the public than other types. Also, I hear a lot of people complaining about the lack of what appear to be great games in February. My thoughts on all this follow below, should you have courage to proceed...

In reverse order (because I want to), the problem with games in February isn't just Nintendo's fault, where are the third-party games? The reason noone complains about the lack of great games on the 360 isn't Microsofts fault, it's because developers have made great games for 360. What great Microsoft game comes out next month? Viva Pinata?! If developers wouls ACTUALLY support the Wii then you would have better games. The major lack of these kinds of games (in my humble opinion) comes from the lack of online play. Personally I think online gameplay is a waste of time. I know people think I'm crazy, but I don't care about FPS and even less about playing against some 12 year old telling me how much he's going to stick it too me. Maybe I'm too old or maybe I'm just too out of touch, but that doesn't conger up pictures of fun. I prefer palying with people I actually know. I miss great co-op games like Contra and Double Dragon! Also, the Wii hasn't been out for very long so chock up a little bit to the early drought that a console seems to have after launch.
Next, is developer trepidation toward developing for the Wii. I don't personally know any developer or anyone that makes games, but it seems that developers have higher reluctance toward the PS3 than the Wii. What great game comes out for the PS3 next month? It would help if game developers would show the Wii some love. I'm not talking about crappy ports of last-gen games (looking at you Ubisoft)! People would like third-party games that don't have the feel of tacked on Wii-Mote usage that is lame at best. Wii supply is in supply shortage, that means demand over shadows supply(I.E. that people want the Wii) so make great games and people will buy them. Maybe before the end of the year developers will actually pay attention and notice the Wii base and make games that will be interesting to play.
Last, I have to say that I'm a believer of the "Playing is believing" slogan. My little sister is a very casual game and she wants a Wii and Avatar. My parents and other two sisters weren't too hot on the Wii, but one likes the Mii Chanel, the other likes the Virtual Console Chanel. I do know a lot of people at work that are interested in the Wii. Besides, when I go Wii hunting I always come home empty handed. Talking to sales reps at the various stores, the say that most people buying are in their late 40's and are buying for the family; mind you not just for the kids, for the family. Only time will tell if Nintendo's strategy will keep working, but so far Nintendo is selling every single Wii the make, that's pretty impressive to me!
